Movie Ratings 1.4.5 out now.

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Version 1.4.5 of Movie Ratings has been released. The only change in this update is a fix for text appearing white in certain Personas themes. Many people have requested IMDB ratings so I’ve started some preliminary work on it, but my life has been busy lately so I can’t give an eta on when it will be finished. Rest assured, it’s coming.

Movie Ratings is finally out of the Mozilla sand box as version 1.4.4. Thanks to everyone who tested it!

Movie Ratings 1.4.3 out.

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Version 1.4.3 of Movie Ratings is out. There are not any major changes. The extension was rejected by Mozilla because the code was not in it’s own namespace. I had completely overlooked that. I have resubmitted the extension for public status. Back to the end of their long nomination queue…

Movie Ratings version 1.4.2 out.

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Changes:

  • If an exact match is found it will go straight to the movie rating skipping the search results. You can always go back to the search results if it’s not the movie you’re looking for. This feature can be turned off in the options under Tools->Add-ons.
  • Bug fixes.

Movie Ratings version 1.4.1 out now.

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I’ve released a new version of Movie Ratings which only contains one fix for an issue involving selecting text in Gmail (thanks Elton) hence the 1.4.1 numbering instead of 1.5. I’ve also applied for public release of the extension to take it out of the sandbox, but there are a lot of people in the queue so it’ll be a while.

Also, some requests for features that might make it into 1.5 include:

  • IMDB support (this is a huge maybe as I’ve heard IMDB makes it difficult to pull ratings)
  • Go straight to the rating if the searched movie is an exact match. I purposefully did not have this before since there are cases where movies have identical names. This feature has been requested and it won’t hurt to add it so I will make it a configurable option. Also, I have an idea for changing the UI that will deal with the cases where movies have identical names.

Movie Ratings v1.4 out now!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Version 1.4 of Movie Ratings has been released. There is not much change in this version. The last release was supposed to be the final release before it goes public, but I guess nothing is ever “final”. Hopefully this release is as close as I can get. :-) Changes include:

  • You can now change the context menu text from the Options button in Tools->Add-ons.
  • Small UI changes.
  • Numerous bug fixes.

Enjoy!

Please continue testing the extension. You can get it from here: Firefox Add-On Sand Box

Check out the Bug Post for bugs in the current version.

Movie Ratings v1.3 out now!

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Version 1.3 of the Movie Ratings Firefox extension has been released. This is hopefully the last major release of the extension before I release it publicly. A lot has changed under the covers as the extension has gone through a complete rewrite to fix some bugs that were found, and to make it more stable. Changes include:

  • Complete rewrite. More stable.
  • UI changes.
  • Now able to get the rating for text in a text box.
  • Added a time out message if search takes longer than 8 seconds.
  • Extra rating information is now shown in a tool tip when mouse is over the rating box.
  • User settings for hiding the tray icon and changing how the rating box closes are now available through the “Options” link for Movie Rating in the Add-On Manager located under Tools->Add-Ons.
  • Bug fixes.

Please continue testing the extension. You can get it from here: Firefox Add-On Sand Box

UPDATE: Already found a bug. If a movie does not have a consensus review then “null” is displayed where the consensus review would be. This is not a major bug so it will be addressed in the next version.

UPDATE 2: Check out the Bug Post for more bugs.
